The Nerd’s Summer Movie Rankings

Yes, I was equally excited before each one, but who came out on top?

Okay, as I sadly stated in last week’s Sticky Floor, the Glory Of Summer (not to be confused with the Glory of Love, or the Summer of ‘69) has come to an end. Looking ahead Vin Diesel or another shitty parody from “The Guys Who Brought You Meet The Spartans” this weekend, I thought It might be better just to look back. So I now present my summer movie rankings. There are a few qualifiers to this list: it only include movies I’ve seen, so a few that slipped through the cracks (Wall-E, Meet Dave) won’t find a spot here. Also, it’s based on pure enjoyment, so you may be surprised to find some things higher/lower on the list than you might expect.

Hit the jump to see the list!

9) The Incredible Hulk

I LOVED the first half hour of Hulk. Ed Norton running from the law, but once it turned into a CG love fest, I was done.

8) Wanted

Hot (but too skinny) Angelina Jolie + Curving bullets = good times! This might have moved up the list if Angelina had eaten a hamburger before the movie.

7) Clone Wars

“A Star Wars movie at #7 of the summer rankings?? What’s happened, Nerd??” Well, as a movie, it’s pretty thin, but if you think of it as a TV show screened in theaters, it’s a success. Can’t wait for the show.

6) Tropic Thunder

I had issues with this movie, but I did laugh. It was a tough decision between this and Pineapple Express, but it came down to which movie I’d want to watch again right now…

5) Pineapple Express

…and Pineapple Express got the slight edge. I want to hang out James Franco’s character for an afternoon.

4) Indiana Jones

For all its fridge-nuking, Shia-swinging, and alien-encountering antics, I still enjoyed the hell out of the new Indy movie. It was great, ridiculous fun and I’m really looking forward to seeing it again on DVD. By the way, anyone who was making comparisons between Indy and The Mummy, how did that turn out this summer?

3) Hellboy II

Hellboy had the unfortunate privilege of coming out a week before the Dark Knight. And it seems like once The Dark Knight came out, anything that came before was forgotten. Give Hellboy a chance on DVD, it’s great!

2) Iron Man

Pure and simple, Robert Downey Jr. owned this movie.

1) Made of Honor

Love that Patrick Dempsey!

THE REAL #1) Dark Knight

No surprises here. Best movie of the summer, the year, and possibly, the ENTIRE SPAN OF TIME!!!! Okay, maybe a bit much, but this movie will change the course of comic book movies for the next 5 years. Time for dark, complex comic movies! Kind of funny that comic book movies will soon be drained of all their color.

Nerd tidbit: Surprisingly, this is the only movie I saw more than once in theaters. That’s shocking for me.

Looking at that list, we saw several original movies sneak through and mix in with some truly amazing sequels to make for a delicious summer stew. See how easy it is to forget The Love Guru and The Happening when you just don’t go see them??
