Remakes can be good, but if the last successful one you can reference is The Thing, then obviously there’s not much to pick off the pile lately. I admit I like the Dawn of the Dead remake and yes, The Thing is a horror masterpiece. But those movies are rare exceptions and worked hard to differentiate themselves from the originals and bring something new to the fore. I hear Last House’s big new contribution is that the killers don’t force a girl to urinate in her pants. (my personal favorite part of the original. (I’m kidding) (Am I?)) I have no interest in revisiting Last House, and Witch Mountain isn’t aimed at me.
Once a remake pops up that challenges the notion that they’re lazy cash-ins, I’ll be sure to reverse my stance.
“A fellow critic friend of mine floated his concluding thoughts on the LAST HOUSE remake, saying it was the best horror film remake since Zack Snyder’s DAWN OF THE DEAD. I can’t argue with that, but I actually think Last House is the better remake of the two. It took a great film that needed some improvements and did just that while still honoring Craven’s messed-up vision.”

I heard Sex Drive was good…atleast Clark Duke was good.
and that Last House on the Left is better than the original.
I think it’s time to stop putting all remakes under the same umbrella. Remakes can be good…look at The Thing.

Oh, and I did lump Sex Drive in there because it did so poorly and made a joke about it sucking, but I am interested in Clark Duke’s performance.
